Breaking Chains: Defined by Grace, Not Shame
April 6th, 2025
Rev. Sean Stanfield
Our mistakes and failures do not define us. Through Christ’s love, we are given a new identity—not as sinners, but as beloved children of God, washed clean and made whole.
Scripture Focus: Romans 8:1-2 “So now there isn’t any condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
1. What does it mean to you to be defined by grace instead of shame?
2. What role does shame play in your life, and how do you typically respond to it?
3. How can embracing grace help us move past guilt and mistakes without being trapped in shame?
4. How does the grace of God affect your relationships with others, especially when you feel they’ve hurt you?
5. What is one area of your life where you feel shame is holding you back, and how can you replace that with grace moving forward?
