Week 2 - Vision Forward: Discipleship Guide – Rev. Stephen Handy
Rev. Handy says that the good news of the gospel is to bring our life in balance, in alignment with God, with God's will, with God's wisdom. Our calling is from God, so we represent. We represent Jesus in our homes and our neighborhoods, in our communities and our cities, in our states. We are first to cultivate humility, then gentleness, and then patience. God calls us to be adopters and to be an adopter on the spectrum means that you are building bridges across differences. People are not looking for a church, but rather a community where belonging is before belief, and intimacy is before commitment. The journey has its ups and downs, its celebrations and challenges. But through it all, we are not walking this path alone. Remember, God is with us and for us as God. Jesus and the Holy Spirit are together.
1. How are we representing Jesus in our homes and our neighborhoods? Explain.
2. What is one way you can cultivate an attitude of humility with your life towards others? How will this affect how they perceive your faith in Christ?
3. How are you cultivating an attitude or lifestyle of gentleness in your walk? What does this say to others who do not know Christ?
4. How are you being patient and having a lifestyle of patience? What does this say to others who struggle with patience towards others?
5. What is something the church needs to do right now to work on these things? (humility, gentleness, and patience) Expain.
