Discipleship Guide - Week 5: “Embracing Our Call as Salt and Light”
In this sermon, Rev. Carlos Uroza explores the profound responsibility and opportunity we have as Christians to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Drawing from Matthew 5:13-16, we learn that our faith calls us to preserve the goodness of the Gospel, enhance the lives of those around us, and shine a light that guides others toward God’s love. By recognizing the value of Christ’s teachings and embracing our role in the community, we can see where God is already at work and join in to bring the Kingdom of God closer to earth.
Questions for Discipleship:
1. Reflection on Salt and Light:
How do you interpret the metaphor of being the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world”? In what ways have you seen yourself or others live out these roles in your community?
2. Preserving the Goodness of the Gospel:
What does it mean to you to “preserve the goodness of the Gospel”? How can you ensure that your actions and words reflect the kindness, compassion, and love of Christ in your daily life?
3. Recognizing God’s Work:
Where do you see God already at work in your community? How can you join in and support these efforts with your gifts and resources?
4. Building Relationships in the Community:
What steps can you take to engage with new people in your community and build deeper relationships with those outside your usual circles?
5. Responding to the Call:
How can you better grasp the value of Jesus’ teachings and His love for all people before going out into the world as salt and light? What practices or disciplines can help you deepen your understanding and commitment to this calling?
